Seeing Lives Transformed through Faith in Christ
If you are thinking about a church wedding please get in touch to discuss the possibilities. All your questions about Church of England weddings are answered here www.yourchurchwedding.org/
In most Church of England marriages there is a legal requirement for banns to be read out in church before the wedding can take place. Banns are an announcement in church of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place.
Banns need to be read in the parish where each of you lives as well as the church in which you are to be married, if that is somewhere else.
Your banns must be read out in church for three Sundays during the three months before the wedding. This is usually done over three consecutive Sundays. Please allow enough time.
Banns can be a special occasion too and the congregation will be invited to pray for you both. You are very welcome to attend and to invite your family too.
The fees laid down by the Diocese are £31 for the reading of the banns and £14 for the certificate of banns which you need before you can marry. Please make the cheque for £45 payable to St Peter’s Toton PCC or you may pay by bank transfer.
